The Town of Littleville is accepting applications for a full-time Wastewater (Sewer) Operator at the Level II or Level III certification level, according to a job posting distributed through the Alabama Rural Water Association.
The posting lists the position as โOpen until filledโ and describes regular hours Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM โ 3:30 PM. It also says the job requires on-call availability during weather events, including nights and weekends as needed.
What the job is (and what it involves)
Under general supervision, the operator is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and repair of the townโs wastewater collection and treatment systems, and for ensuring compliance with applicable state and federal environmental regulations administered through ADEM.
In the โEssential Dutiesโ section, the town lists responsibilities including:
- Operating and maintaining wastewater treatment facilities, lift stations, and sewer collection systems
- Monitoring plant processes, equipment, and controls to ensure proper operation and regulatory compliance
- Performing routine inspections, maintenance, and repairs on pumps, motors, valves, and related equipment
- Collecting samples and performing basic laboratory testing as required
- Maintaining accurate operational logs, reports, and records
- Responding to emergency calls, including sewer overflows and system failures
- Assisting with line locates, sewer line cleaning, and repairs
- Participating in on-call rotation and responding during inclement weather or emergency situations
- Assisting with general town maintenance and other duties assigned
The listingโs minimum qualifications include a high school diploma or GED and a valid Alabama Wastewater Operator Certification (Level II or III), along with a valid Alabama driverโs license.
How to apply
The posting says applications may be obtained at Littleville Town Hall or by contacting the Town Clerkโs office. Completed applications and resumes should be brought to Town Hall or submitted to townclerk@littlevilleal.org (Attn: Town Clerk).
Why residents should care about sewer operator coverage
Residents generally donโt think about wastewater operations until something goes wrong. But operator coverage matters most when weather turns more extremeโbecause stronger rainfall can increase flows to lift stations and sewer lines. The townโs on-call expectations are intended to help ensure the system can be monitored and managed during those higher-demand periods.
The hiring also fits into the broader utility reliability picture described in an Alabama Department of Environmental Management (ADEM) public notice for Littlevilleโs state Clean Water SRF projectโan effort ADEM says is intended to improve the wastewater treatment facility, rehabilitate sanitary sewer mains and lift stations, and help reduce sanitary sewer overflows.
Utility work in the background: a separate water-main bid
Littlevilleโs infrastructure work isnโt limited to wastewater. A Goodwyn Mills Cawood bid listing for a โCDBG Water Main Replacementโ project (Owner: Town of Littleville) shows a sealed-bid schedule with a bid date of January 20, 2026 and a non-mandatory pre-bid meeting on January 6, 2026 at Littleville Town Hall.
What to watch next
Because the wastewater operator job is listed as open until filled, the main practical update residents and applicants should watch for is whether the town posts additional hiring/coverage information as it fills the role.
