‘The Day the Music Died’ Commemoration

On February 3, 2026, the Buddy Holly Center in Lubbock hosted a special event to honor the 67th anniversary of the tragic plane crash that claimed the lives of Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, J.P. “The Big Bopper” Richardson, and pilot Roger Peterson. The museum was open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., featuring screenings of “The Buddy I Knew,” a documentary by Buddy Holly’s brother, Larry Holley, and children’s activities in the Education Station. The J.I. Allison House was also open for guests to explore from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Community Initiative: Stacks of Love

On February 2, 2026, IHOP and Real Deal Cares launched the “Stacks of Love” campaign in Lubbock with a free pancake event aimed at promoting community and youth development. The initiative plans to serve 5,000 pancakes in 2026 through family-friendly events that foster community connection, youth development, and generosity. Traffic Incidents in Lubbock
