Mabank ISD approves up to $600,000 Southside Elementary parking and paving project
Mabank ISD approved an interlocal agreement with the City of Mabank for parking, paving and driveway work at Southside Elementary, authorizing a project with a not-to-exceed amount of $600,000.
The school board considered and approved the agreement at its May 18, 2026, meeting. The City of Mabank and Mabank ISD are the identified local parties for the project.
What the agreement covers
The project includes work involving parking, paved areas and drives at Southside Elementary. Those parts of the campus affect how students, families, employees and visitors reach and move around the school.
The $600,000 figure is a spending ceiling rather than a statement that the full amount will be spent. The approved agenda does not establish how the cost will be divided between the city and the school district.
Because the work involves school parking areas, pavement and driveways, it could improve parking conditions, traffic circulation and access around the campus. Those potential changes would be relevant during drop-off and pickup periods and to the city and district responsibilities connected with maintaining the area.
Approval is not construction completion
The board’s action approves the interlocal agreement and the project amount. It does not establish that construction has begun or that any work has been completed.
The agreement record does not set a construction start date, identify a contractor or provide a completion deadline. It also does not specify the funding allocation between Mabank ISD and the city.
That distinction matters for families and employees trying to anticipate changes around Southside Elementary. The approval confirms the project and its maximum authorized amount, but it does not yet provide a timetable for construction activity, temporary access changes or finished improvements.
Local project responsibilities
Mabank ISD is the school district overseeing Southside Elementary, while the City of Mabank is the municipal government serving Mabank. The interlocal agreement brings the two local governments together for work at the campus.
Further details about contracting, funding and scheduling would clarify how and when the project will affect the school’s parking and drives. For now, the confirmed action is the May 18 board approval of an agreement for Southside Elementary work capped at $600,000.
