MDOT lists $7 million reconstruction of M-91 north of Stanton

Michigan’s transportation program lists a 2026 reconstruction of 4.377 miles of M-91 from Stanton Road north to Kendaville Road in Montcalm County, with an estimated cost of $7,033,001.

The project is classified as road rehabilitation using crush-and-shape reconstruction, a process that rebuilds the roadway before placing new pavement. The funding estimate includes $5,756,511 in federal money and $1,276,490 in state funding.

The work would affect a principal route for Stanton-area residents, commuters and commercial traffic. The Michigan Department of Transportation’s FY 2026-2029 State Transportation Improvement Program identifies the project as part of its planned 2026 construction program.

Additional M-91 work

The same program lists a separate 2026 project on M-91 from the Flat River north to Peck Road. That work would apply a one-course asphalt overlay to 1.96 miles of the highway, at an estimated cost of $1,638,002.

Together, the two listed M-91 projects cover more than six miles of roadway in the Stanton area, although they are separate projects with different scopes and cost estimates. The larger project is a reconstruction; the Flat River-to-Peck Road project is an asphalt overlay.

Stanton Road project listed for 2027

The transportation program also lists a 2027 overlay on Stanton Road, identified as CR522, from Federal Road to Marble Road. The total estimated job cost is $1,532,000.

That project would add another planned road improvement on a route connected to the M-91 reconstruction area. The program identifies the M-91 work as a 2026 project and the Stanton Road overlay as a 2027 project.

What is known about timing

The transportation program does not specify a construction start date, traffic-control plan or expected completion date for the M-91 reconstruction. It also does not establish that construction has begun or indicate that the highway will be fully closed.

For local road coordination, the Montcalm County Road Commission lists its office at 619 W. Main Street in Stanton. Its public meeting schedule includes a board meeting on Aug. 5, 2026, and another on Aug. 19, 2026.

Those meetings are the next listed local public dates connected to the county road agency. Separate construction notices would be needed for specific information about lane restrictions, detours, start dates or completion.
