Mineola wakes up today with crews still checking on water issues and residents digging out from a quick burst of winter weather.

Water main breaks and brown water advisory

The village is warning that water main breaks at several locations may continue to cause discolored or brown water in some homes. Officials say the water remains safe to use, but advise residents to run cold taps until the water clears and to avoid using hot water until it does.

Recent mailings from the water department also outlined whether individual properties have lead, copper, or other types of service lines, part of a broader effort to catalog every line in the system and prioritize future replacements. While most homes are listed as having non-lead materials, some properties were notified that part or all of their service line is made of lead and should eventually be replaced.

Snow cleanup wraps up after Friday storm

After light snow on Friday into early Saturday, the village reports that plowing operations have been completed and on-street parking may resume. Residents are still asked to leave extra room for narrow lanes, give plow and salting trucks space when they pass, and keep an eye on any remaining ice as temperatures stay in the teens and 20s.

Mineola heads into a busy week of village business, with the Architectural Review Board scheduled to meet on Monday, followed by Board of Trustees meetings on Wednesday and the following week. A Tax Grievance Day session is also on the calendar later in the month, giving homeowners a chance to ask questions about their assessments and challenge them if needed.
