Minnetonka Gas and Diesel Prices Split as Metro Costs Stay High
Regular gas fell 11.4 cents over the past week in the Minneapolis-St. Paul metro, while diesel rose 4.4 cents, with mixed prices at a Minnetonka station.
Regular gasoline and diesel moved in opposite directions in the latest fuel-price check serving Minnetonka. AAA’s July 31, 2026, Minneapolis-St. Paul metro averages were $4.008 per gallon for regular gasoline and $5.133 for diesel.
Compared with a week earlier, regular gasoline was down 11.4 cents per gallon, while diesel was up 4.4 cents. The split matters for Minnetonka commuters, households, contractors, delivery drivers and other businesses that depend on different types of fuel.
Regular gas eased but remains above earlier averages
AAA listed the Minneapolis-St. Paul regular-gas average at $4.008 on July 31, down from $4.024 the previous day and $4.122 a week earlier. The metro average was still 40.5 cents above the month-ago average of $3.603 and 92.7 cents above the year-ago average of $3.081.
A 7-Eleven/Speedway station at 17516 Highway 7 in Minnetonka listed regular gasoline at $3.999 per gallon. That was about 0.9 cents below the metro average. The station also listed diesel at $5.299 per gallon, about 16.6 cents above the metro average.
The retailer says its fuel prices are updated within 24 hours. Those figures are a snapshot from one Minnetonka station, not a citywide average, and prices can differ at other pumps.
Diesel moved higher over the week
AAA’s Minneapolis-St. Paul diesel average rose from $5.089 a week earlier to $5.133 on July 31. It was slightly below the previous day’s $5.144, but remained 43.6 cents above the month-ago average of $4.697 and $1.447 above the year-ago average of $3.686.
That trend may matter most to diesel-sensitive operators. Contractors, landscapers, delivery companies, repair firms and other service businesses may face more fuel-cost pressure when trucks, vans or equipment travel between jobs. Higher diesel costs can also affect hauling and delivery expenses, although the latest increase alone does not establish that local businesses have raised prices.
What Minnetonka drivers should watch
For regular-gas drivers, the weekly decline offers some short-term relief, but the metro average remains well above its month-ago and year-ago levels. Commuters and weekend travelers may still find that comparing stations makes a noticeable difference, especially on larger fill-ups.
AAA’s metro figures cover Minneapolis-St. Paul rather than Minnetonka alone. The Highway 7 listing provides a current exact-city reference point, but residents should check individual stations before filling up.
