Snow, sharp wind chills and a busy civic calendar are setting the tone in Murrysville today as residents dig out and look ahead to next week.

Snow, wind and dangerous cold

Overnight snow and strong gusts have created slick spots across Westmoreland County, especially in higher elevations to the south and east of town. A recent winter weather advisory for those areas highlighted reduced visibility, blowing snow and difficult travel, particularly during the Friday evening commute.

While Murrysville itself is not in the highest terrain, the same system is bringing frigid air and blustery winds through the weekend. The National Weather Service has warned that wind chills in parts of the region could drop well below zero, raising the risk of frostbite for anyone outside for extended periods. Neighbors heading out to work, church or youth sports are urged to dress in layers and keep an eye on rapidly changing road conditions.

Council follow up and 2026 budget work

The municipal council held its regular voting meeting on Wednesday, February 4, taking up routine business at the municipal building. Staff are now focused on carrying out the newly adopted 2026 operating budget and the five year capital improvements program covering 2026 through 2030, both of which are posted on the municipal website for residents to review.

That long range plan outlines major projects with price tags above ten thousand dollars and at least a five year useful life, guiding decisions on equipment, roads and facilities. The next full council session is scheduled for Tuesday, February 17, giving residents time to look over the budget documents and prepare any questions or comments.

Library programs on Tuesday night

This Tuesday, February 10, the Murrysville Community Library will host an online English conversation group from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. The monthly session is led by an experienced language instructor and is open to adult learners at all levels who want relaxed practice with neighbors.

Immediately afterward, from 6 to 7 p.m., the library’s teen writing club will meet in person for students ages twelve to eighteen. The club offers a low pressure space to share stories, swap tips and get feedback from peers who enjoy writing.

Route 22 commercial corner draws interest

A pair of commercial parcels at Route 22 and Triangle Lane in the eastern end of town has been listed for sale, according to a regional real estate platform. The two lots total just over two acres and carry general commercial zoning, allowing a range of business or light industrial uses along the highway corridor.

The listing notes access to public utilities and highlights the site as an opportunity in a busy stretch of the business district. Any eventual project there would join a line of recent investment along the Route 22 frontage through Murrysville.
