Public safety

Metro police are working to identify a suspect vehicle after a driver was shot and killed Sunday evening in North Nashville near Buchanan Street and Ed Temple Boulevard. Investigators say the victim’s vehicle was hit by gunfire from another car, and the driver later crashed into a tree. Police said a passenger from the vehicle was taken into custody as officers recovered a bag that reportedly contained a pistol and marijuana. Detectives are gathering nearby camera footage as the investigation continues.

Affordability watch

Mayor Freddie O’Connell is backing an effort that could eventually lower the local grocery tax rate in Nashville, but it would require a change in state law first. Under current rules, Metro Nashville cannot reduce its grocery tax the way other Tennessee cities can. A resolution asking state lawmakers to adjust the law is expected to be introduced at Metro Council next week, part of a broader push aimed at everyday costs.

Centennial Park update

If the Parthenon is on your regular walk or visitor list, plan for the interior to be off-limits for a while. Metro Parks has announced a multi-month closure starting Sunday, March 1, for replacement of HVAC temperature control systems intended to protect artwork and improve year-round comfort. The exterior remains a stop in Centennial Park, and the Cowan Collection of American Art is set to be shown at Cheekwood during the shutdown.

Tonight: Music City Loop community meeting

Residents in Metro District 1 have a scheduled chance to hear more about the Music City Loop proposal at a community meeting Monday evening. The event is set for 5:30 p.m. at Word of Life Christian Center International on Clarksville Pike, with a Boring Company executive expected to provide an update and take questions alongside local public-safety and community representatives.
