New Bedford Fuel Check: Gas at $3.76, Diesel at $4.99

A Cumberland Farms station at 2886 Acushnet Ave. in New Bedford listed regular unleaded at $3.76 per gallon and diesel at $4.99 on Saturday, Aug. 1, 2026.

Those are prices at one station, not a citywide New Bedford average. Cumberland Farms also warns that fuel prices can change throughout the day, so drivers should check the pump or retailer listing before filling up.

Regular gas: $3.76 at Acushnet Avenue station

The Cumberland Farms regular-gas price was below the current AAA Massachusetts average of $4.125 per gallon and below AAA’s nearby Seekonk metro average of $4.005. AAA listed both comparison figures as current on Aug. 1.

A separate 7-Eleven listing for 45 Coggeshall Street in New Bedford showed regular gas at $3.999 and said its fuel prices had been updated within 24 hours. That second listing is another station reference, but it does not establish a citywide average or show that every New Bedford station is priced similarly.

Diesel: $4.99 at the Cumberland Farms location

The Acushnet Avenue station listed diesel at $4.99 per gallon. That was below AAA’s current Massachusetts diesel average of $5.478 and below the Seekonk metro diesel average of $5.344.

Diesel prices matter especially to contractors, delivery operators, landscapers, service fleets and other businesses that use heavier vehicles. A lower-priced station can reduce the cost of an individual fill-up, although the practical savings depend on the vehicle’s tank size, route and how much fuel is purchased.

What New Bedford drivers should watch

For commuters and households, even small differences between stations can affect the cost of a weekly fill-up. Delivery drivers, weekend travelers and local service businesses may also see a larger effect when fuel purchases are frequent or involve multiple vehicles.

AAA’s Massachusetts and Seekonk figures provide statewide and regional context; they should not be read as the average price at every New Bedford pump. Station prices can differ by retailer, location, payment program and time of day.
