New Homeless Center Opens, Supreme Court Convenes, Measles Cases Rise in Philly
Philadelphia, PA – March 10, 2026 – City leaders open a new homeless center, the Supreme Court convenes, measles cases rise, and crews battle a North Philly fire.
Philadelphia is starting the week with major developments across public safety, health and city government.
New Homeless Services Center Opens
Mayor Cherelle Parker is scheduled to attend the opening of HOPE 220, a new Office of Homeless Services Solution Center on North Broad Street. The facility is designed to provide beds, shelter and supportive services for residents in need of long-term or independent housing.
City officials say the center is part of a broader push to stabilize vulnerable populations and connect people to permanent housing. A $500,000 donation from a local nonprofit partner is also being presented to support operations at the site.
Pennsylvania Supreme Court in Session at City Hall
The Pennsylvania Supreme Court begins a three-day oral argument session today inside City Hall. Proceedings run through Thursday, with cases covering matters of statewide importance.
Seating is available to the public on a first-come basis, though electronic devices are not permitted in the courtroom. The sessions bring the state’s highest court directly into the heart of Philadelphia civic life.
Measles Cases Climb in Southeastern PA
Health officials are monitoring an uptick in measles cases across southeastern Pennsylvania. Philadelphia leaders are emphasizing vaccine availability and urging residents to check immunization records.
The increase comes amid renewed public health messaging about routine vaccinations. Hospitals in the region are also receiving recognition for patient care and safety efforts as officials work to maintain confidence in local health systems.
Electrical Fire in North Philadelphia
Firefighters responded Sunday morning to an electrical fire at a commercial building on North Front Street. Crews arrived to find active flames inside the structure.
No injuries were immediately reported. The cause remains under investigation as officials assess damage to the property.
