Enhanced Security Measures for Mardi Gras
New Orleans is gearing up for Mardi Gras with a comprehensive security plan aimed at ensuring the safety of residents and visitors during the festivities. The city has received a Special Event Assessment Rating (SEAR) 1 from the Department of Homeland Security, the highest possible rating, which brings additional federal resources to the area.
Increased Federal and State Support
Mayor Helena Moreno announced that over 500 federal personnel, including National Guard members, will be deployed to assist local law enforcement. Additionally, approximately 250 Louisiana State Police troopers will be on duty to provide extra support during the Carnival season.
Street Closures and Public Safety Measures
To enhance public safety, several street closures are planned. Notably, Bourbon Street will be closed to vehicle traffic from February 6 through 8 and again from February 13 through 17. These closures aim to create a safer environment for parade-goers and pedestrians.
First Aid Stations Along Parade Routes
City officials have also set up first aid stations along key parade routes to address any medical emergencies promptly. These stations will be staffed with medical personnel and equipped to handle various situations that may arise during the celebrations.
Public Cooperation and Safety Reminders
Authorities are urging the public to cooperate with law enforcement and adhere to safety guidelines. They emphasize the importance of reporting any suspicious activity and remind attendees to stay vigilant throughout the festivities.
