North Port Police Review Finds Department Performing Well Overall
North Port officials said an independent assessment found the North Port Police Department performing well overall, while also identifying recommendations involving operations, staffing and service delivery.
The city engaged the Center for Public Safety Management to conduct the comprehensive review. The assessment was presented during a North Port City Commission special meeting on March 24, 2026, and the city announced its response April 6.
North Port said several recommendations were already underway and that additional recommendations would be implemented after city officials complete their review. Officials also said they would not automatically adopt every recommendation if local data or operational considerations support a different approach.

The assessment is intended to give the city an outside look at how its police operations are functioning as North Port grows. Its findings are expected to inform decisions about staffing, day-to-day operations and how police services are delivered.
