Orland Park advances downtown medical-campus expansion
Orland Park announced a new ground lease with the University of Chicago Medical Center for an additional multistory medical facility in Downtown Orland Park, advancing plans for further healthcare development in the villageโs Main Street Triangle.
The June 16, 2026, announcement also included an amended and restated redevelopment agreement between the village and Edwards Realty. Together, the agreements move the downtown project forward, while leaving important construction details unresolved.
What the agreement changes
The ground lease is with the University of Chicago Medical Center, also known as UChicago Medicine. The planned project is described as an additional multistory medical facility. The announcement does not establish that the facility will be a hospital, and it does not say that construction has started.
The village did not state the proposed buildingโs square footage, construction cost, tenant mix or opening date in the accessible announcement. Those omissions mean the agreement should be treated as a development milestone rather than a completed project or a firm construction schedule.
Edwards Realty is also part of the updated arrangement. Orland Park amended and restated its redevelopment agreement with the company as part of the same downtown development effort. The announcement identifies the project area as Downtown Orland Park, including the villageโs downtown TIF and Business District.
Building on the Main Street Triangle
The proposed facility would add to an area that already has a UChicago Medicine presence. UChicago Medicine opened its Center for Advanced Care in the Main Street Triangle in 2015.
That existing medical center is part of the broader downtown corridor the village describes as being anchored by healthcare, arts, dining and public space. An additional medical facility could reinforce the healthcare component of that corridor and support the villageโs effort to continue redevelopment around Main Street.
The local significance is therefore broader than the lease itself. The agreement could expand healthcare capacity in Orland Park, strengthen the downtown redevelopment corridor and bring additional economic activity to the Main Street Triangle area. Those are potential effects of the planned development, not confirmed results of the announcement.
Part of a wider redevelopment strategy
The agreement comes as Orland Park pursues a more targeted approach to growth and redevelopment. The Regional News reported May 31 that the village was dividing the town into four development zones as part of a sub-area development strategy.
That separate planning context provides a wider frame for the downtown medical-campus announcement: the village is identifying areas for focused development while continuing to use tools including a downtown TIF and Business District to support redevelopment.
For residents and businesses, the immediate change is the advancement of an agreementโnot the opening of a new facility. The next concrete steps, including any construction timeline, building size, project cost and eventual opening date, were not provided in the announcement. Until those details are released, the projectโs final scale and timing remain uncertain.
