$50 million road project to support industrial growth

Sarpy County is preparing a $50 million road improvement project near 156th Street to handle growing industrial traffic, including the area around major data centers.

The plan adds new pavement, expands key stretches to three lanes, and installs roundabouts at busy intersections, with construction expected to start this spring and last at least two years. Local cities, including Papillion, are helping fund the work alongside the county and private partners.

On this weekend in history

Friday marked the anniversary of Sarpy County’s creation on February 6, 1857, carved out of Douglas County and named for fur trader Peter Sarpy.

Bellevue was the original county seat, but a later special election moved the courthouse to Papillion, where it has remained since 1876, helping anchor the town’s role in regional government and services.

Debate tournament brings students to Papillion-La Vista

The Tournament of Kings high school speech and debate event is in town today at Papillion-La Vista High School, drawing students for rounds in novice and varsity divisions.
