PEAK fiber project targets September 30 completion near Brownsville

A state-backed rural fiber project that includes eligible locations near Brownsville is approaching its September 30, 2026 construction target, according to Business Oregon.

The Linn County Rural Fiber Expansion project received $6,730,388.50 through Oregon’s Broadband Deployment Program. The program uses federal American Rescue Plan Act Capital Projects Fund money to support broadband infrastructure in locations that lack high-speed internet.

Business Oregon says the PEAK Internet project is intended to connect approximately 662 locations near Brownsville, Lebanon and Lacomb. The state identifies the project as being in Linn County and says it is expected to be completed by September 30, 2026.

Where Brownsville fits

PEAK identifies North Brownsville as one of four project areas, along with North Lacomb, Mt. Hope/Griggs and Keel Mountain. The project footprint does not mean every home or business in Brownsville will receive fiber. Eligibility is tied to specific grant-funded addresses determined under state program rules.

Residents and businesses in or near North Brownsville should check their exact service address rather than rely on a neighborhood name or general boundary. PEAK says people can preregister for project updates by submitting their address through the company’s Broadband Development Program page or by calling the company.

What installation may involve

For an approved grant-funded address, PEAK says a service drop may be placed without requiring the property owner to subscribe immediately. The company says most drops will follow the existing power easement.

Depending on the property, the connection may run overhead from an existing pole or underground from a transformer toward the meter. PEAK says a representative will review individual site conditions and determine the best route.

That means poles, clearance, property access and existing utility arrangements may affect how a particular installation is handled.

What the deadline means

September 30, 2026 is the state-listed project completion target. It is not a promise that every eligible address will have active service on that exact date, and it does not expand the project to properties outside the approved footprint.
