FM518 Road Widening Project
The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) has initiated plans to widen FM518 from State Highway 288 to Walnut Street. This expansion will increase the road from four to six lanes, incorporating medians and dedicated left-turn lanes. The project is divided into two phases: Phase 1 covers SH288 to Cullen Parkway, and Phase 2 extends from Cullen Parkway to Walnut Street. Construction for Phase 1 is scheduled to commence in 2024, with Phase 2 to follow thereafter.
Sherwood Subdivision Street Reconstruction
As part of the 2019 Bond package, the city has allocated funds for the reconstruction of streets in the Sherwood subdivision. This initiative aims to replace deteriorating roads and outdated water lines, ensuring improved infrastructure for residents. Construction is anticipated to begin in the fiscal year 2023.
Shadow Creek Ranch Enhancements
Significant improvements are planned for the Shadow Creek Ranch area, focusing on FM2234, Discovery Bay, and FM518. Proposed upgrades include dual left-turn lanes, traffic signals, roundabouts, and right-turn lanes. Design work is slated to start in the third quarter of fiscal year 2021, with construction expected in fiscal year 2022.
Pearland Parkway Intersection Upgrades
The intersections of Pearland Parkway with FM518 and Barry Rose Road are set to undergo capacity enhancements. These improvements will feature dual left-turn lanes and right-turn lanes to facilitate better traffic flow. Design work is scheduled for fiscal year 2021, with construction to follow in fiscal year 2022 for Pearland Parkway and in fiscal year 2023 for Barry Rose Road.
Thoroughfare Plan Update
In response to completed and ongoing mobility projects, the city plans to update its Thoroughfare Plan. The previous model, developed in 2012 and projected to 2035, will be revised to reflect current and future infrastructure needs. The update will commence after the release of the 2020 census data in 2021.
