Shooting Incident in Pembroke Pines
On Tuesday morning, a shooting occurred in Pembroke Pines following a dispute over child custody. The altercation took place around 11 a.m. in a parking lot near Northwest 78th Terrace and Third Street. During the incident, Otis Leevel Johnson, 24, of Davie, fired at his ex-partner and two other individuals. Johnson fled the scene but was apprehended by police shortly after. He faces charges of attempted first-degree murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. The injured woman was transported to a hospital; her current condition is unknown.
Animal Cruelty Case Involving Rescued Puppies
In a separate incident, three malnourished puppies were rescued by Pembroke Pines police officers. The dogs, a French bulldog mix and two pit bull mixes, were found in a small crate without food or water in 40-degree weather. Angela Goodwin, president of Pooches in Pines, a local nonprofit, described the case as “upsetting and gut-wrenching.” The puppies are currently under the care of the organization. Jaylen Holmes, 24, was arrested and faces multiple charges, including impounding confined animals without sufficient food or water and tormenting animals.
