Port Angeles Daily Briefing – February 8, 2026
Port Angeles, WA — February 8, 2026 — A grant for salmon-friendly urban forestry, a busy arts weekend downtown, and fresh chances to plug into civic life.
Port Angeles Daily Briefing
Good morning, Port Angeles. Here are a few things to know around town as we start Sunday, February 8.
City secures grant for salmon-friendly urban forestry
City officials say a new $109,000 state grant will help weave salmon recovery work directly into local planning. The funding will support creation of an Urban Forestry Program that focuses on trees along stream corridors inside the city.
Staff plan to map tree canopy, study stormwater runoff, and identify spots where healthier riparian habitat could cool streams and improve water quality for salmon. The program is also expected to guide weed control, erosion prevention, and long term replacement of aging trees.
Residents are promised chances to get involved beginning this fall, with outreach and education events planned as the program takes shape.
Ideas wanted for historic downtown fire hall
The city is inviting proposals for the sale and redevelopment of the former Port Angeles Fire Hall at 215 South Lincoln Street. Proposals are due February 13 and must balance redevelopment goals with protection of the landmark building.
The 1930s era Art Deco structure is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. City leaders say they hope to see ideas that add housing downtown, especially affordable units, while keeping the historic character of the building intact.
Arts and events: A busy weekend on the waterfront
Downtown is staying lively this weekend, with concerts and exhibits drawing people to the waterfront and the bluff.
At Field Arts and Events Hall, a Saturday night performance by the Jovino Santos Neto Quinteto is bringing Brazilian jazz to the main stage, while the on site coffee bar continues its daily morning hours for walkers and cyclists along the trail.
Elsewhere in town, the Port Angeles Fine Arts Center has opened its Eternal Echoes exhibition, and Studio Bob is hosting dance and teen arts events, adding to a full February calendar for locals looking to get out of the house.
Looking ahead: Conservation district meets this week
The Clallam Conservation District board is scheduled to meet Tuesday, February 10, in Port Angeles. The agenda includes the district’s 2026 work plan, an equipment purchase, and a letter of support tied to regional salmon restoration funding.
Meetings are open to the public, with options to attend in person downtown or join remotely.
