Protest Planned, Mills Act Deadline Passes, College Baseball Heads to Blair Field
Long Beach, CA – March 22, 2026 – A protest is planned at Bixby Park Annex, the city’s Mills Act application deadline closed Friday, and college baseball returns to Blair Field …
It’s been an active few days across Long Beach, with civic engagement, preservation efforts and college athletics all drawing attention as March moves along.
Protest Planned at Bixby Park Annex
Organizers are promoting a “No Kings 3” protest set for Saturday, March 28 at noon at Bixby Park Annex, near Cherry Avenue and Junipero Avenue.
Posts circulating online over the past three days are encouraging community members to attend, citing national political concerns as the driving force behind the gathering. While the event is still nearly a week away, discussion has been building across neighborhood forums and social platforms throughout the weekend.
As of Sunday, the event remains in the planning stages, with supporters continuing to share time and location details online.
Mills Act Application Deadline Closes
Friday, March 20 marked an important deadline for local property owners. Applications for Long Beach’s 2026 Mills Act Program were due by 5 p.m., along with the required pre-application fee.
The Mills Act provides property tax incentives to owners who commit to preserving qualified historic properties. In exchange for maintaining and restoring historic structures, participants may receive reduced property tax assessments.
The program has played a meaningful role in maintaining historic homes and buildings throughout Long Beach, including in neighborhoods such as Bluff Heights, Belmont Shore and downtown. With this year’s deadline now closed, the city will move forward with reviewing submitted applications for the 2026 cycle.
College Baseball Returns to Blair Field
On the sports front, college baseball is set to bring more energy to Blair Field later this week. UC Irvine’s baseball team wrapped up its weekend series Sunday and is scheduled to travel to Long Beach for a three-game matchup against Long Beach State.
The series is slated to begin March 27, with additional games on March 28 and March 29. As conference play intensifies heading into late March, the games are expected to draw local fans eager to see the in-state teams compete.
With community activism, historic preservation and college athletics all unfolding at once, it’s shaping up to be a dynamic stretch for the city.
