Railroad bridge work closes sidewalks on two Elyria avenues
Rehabilitation work on two Norfolk Southern railroad bridges in Elyria is underway, temporarily closing one sidewalk at the active work area and changing pedestrian access on West Avenue and East Avenue.
The Ruhlin Company began the project Monday, July 27, according to a City of Elyria pedestrian advisory issued before the work started. The city said the project involves the railroad bridges over both avenues and that residents should follow posted detours or other access instructions while construction continues.
Work starts at West Avenue
The work is proceeding in phases. Crews begin at the West Avenue bridge, then move to the East Avenue bridge. The available city notice does not state how long either phase will last, so the timing of the move from one bridge to the other is not yet specified.
As the work progresses, one sidewalk at the active work area is closed. The notice does not establish that sidewalks on both sides of either avenue are closed at the same time. Pedestrians approaching the construction area should use the posted directions rather than enter the active work zone.
