Raleigh gets daily intercity bus service to Atlanta and Norfolk
Raleigh riders now have daily intercity bus links to Atlanta and Norfolk, plus more Fayetteville service, after NCDOT’s July 1 route expansion.
NCDOT’s new intercity bus schedule took effect July 1 and gives Raleigh riders more regional travel options right away. The biggest changes for local travelers are daily service to Atlanta and Norfolk, plus more frequent service between Fayetteville and Raleigh.
The state says the new routes and extensions add 900 miles of daily service across North Carolina and neighboring states. For Raleigh, that means more direct bus options for people trying to keep travel costs down or connect to other transit.
Where Raleigh riders board
The City of Raleigh says the intercity bus stop is at 2210 Capital Blvd., and riders can reach it on GoRaleigh Route 1. That makes the service easier to use for people without a car and for anyone connecting from local transit.
The city also says intercity bus service serving Raleigh runs seven days a week, 365 days a year. Buses are ADA accessible and have restroom facilities.
What changed July 1
NCDOT says the expansion includes a new daily Raleigh-to-Atlanta route, a new daily Raleigh-to-Norfolk route, and doubled daily service between Fayetteville and Raleigh. The department says its intercity bus program connects more than 50 North Carolina communities and links into the broader national bus network.
Why it matters locally
The riders most likely to notice are students, workers, families and budget-conscious travelers making regional trips. A bus option can mean lower travel costs, less parking hassle and another way to reach destinations when driving is not convenient.
For Raleigh, the key detail is the Route 1 connection to the city’s intercity bus stop. That turns the service into a practical transportation option instead of a separate cross-town trip.
