Good morning, Round Lake Beach. It is a quiet but active Saturday, with sunshine and slightly warmer temperatures settling in over the village.

Weekend at a glance

The Round Lake Area Park District has stacked the end of this week with winter programs, from early childhood activities to evening outings for families. Listings include a Singing in the Rain preview, beginning ballroom dancing and a Fun Friday session built around pets.

Today, outdoor-minded residents can head to park district ice fishing and nature programs, including a Neighborhood Naturalist event, offering a chance to enjoy local lakes and trails while the cold weather hangs on. Check registration details and locations through the district before heading out.

Music and family shows at the Civic Center

Looking a few days ahead, the Round Lake Area Band is set for a free Community Band Concert at 7:30 pm on Wednesday, February 11, at the Round Lake Beach Cultural and Civic Center. It is a straightforward, family-friendly way to get out of the house on a midwinter weeknight.

Later in the month, a Nanny Nikki family concert will bring an interactive children’s music show with songs rooted in African and civil rights traditions. The program is scheduled for the morning of Saturday, February 21, giving younger families another low-cost local option close to home.

Schools and summer plans

The school district is also using the Civic and Cultural Center this month, with a Black History Month celebration planned there on Friday, February 20, from 6 to 8 pm. The event is listed on the Round Lake Area Schools calendar and is expected to draw students, families and neighbors from across the area.

Farther out, the Civic Center is already promoting its 2026 lineup, including the Summertime Live series that combines a Mercadito-style market with evening concerts every other Thursday starting May 28, and a two-day BeachFest and Independence Day celebration on July 3 and 4, tied into the nation’s 250th birthday.

Residents are also watching longer-term economic changes, including previously announced plans to convert the vacant Rollins Crossing movie theater into a family entertainment center with movie screens, a restaurant, games, axe throwing and a multi-level electric go-kart track, with an opening target set for 2026 when the project was unveiled.
