KCRA 3 Unveils 70th Anniversary Mural in Sacramento
Sacramento’s KCRA 3 is commemorating its 70th anniversary by creating a mural that incorporates the historic KCRA neon sign from the 1950s, LiveCopter 3, the state Capitol, and the beam. The mural, painted by local artist Daniel Pedersen, aims to connect with the community and is expected to be completed in one to three weeks. Residents have been engaging with the artist, sharing their stories and expressing pride in the project. This initiative highlights the station’s longstanding presence and its connection to Sacramento’s history.
Community Volunteers Participate in Point-in-Time Count to Address Homelessness
On January 26 and 27, hundreds of volunteers canvassed Sacramento County to count individuals experiencing homelessness as part of the 2026 Point-in-Time (PIT) count. Utilizing a mobile app called “Counting Us,” volunteers recorded encounters with people sleeping outdoors or in vehicles and conducted brief surveys to gather data on the duration of homelessness and needed services. Organized by Sacramento Steps Forward, the PIT count is mandated by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development for communities receiving federal funding. The collected data will inform funding allocations and the development of programs aimed at addressing homelessness in the region. This effort underscores the community’s commitment to understanding and addressing homelessness through collaborative action.
Why It Matters Locally
Both the mural and the PIT count reflect Sacramento’s dedication to preserving its history and actively engaging in solutions to community challenges, fostering a sense of pride and responsibility among residents.
