San Diego Metro Gas Prices Rise; Diesel Holds Near $7
Regular gasoline is averaging $5.748 per gallon across the San Diego metro area, while diesel is holding at $6.970, according to the latest AAA California fuel-price table.
The figures are San Diego metro averages used as regional context for El Cajon. They are not an official citywide El Cajon average, and individual stations can be higher or lower.
Regular gas moves higher
AAA lists the San Diego metro regular-gas average as 0.2 cents higher than the previous day, 3.1 cents higher than a week earlier, 29.3 cents higher than a month earlier and $1.201 higher than a year earlier.
Compared with the last local fuel-price check, when the San Diego metro regular-gas figure was reported at $5.72, the regional average is also higher.
Diesel remains near $7
Diesel is averaging $6.970 per gallon. The latest AAA table shows no daily change, but diesel is up 8.5 cents from a week earlier, 47.3 cents from a month earlier and $1.943 from a year earlier.
That leaves diesel with the larger increases over the longer comparison periods. The current figure is also above the $6.87 diesel price reported in the previous local fuel-price check.
What it means in El Cajon
For residents, the regional averages can mean higher weekly commuting costs, especially for drivers with long trips or larger vehicles. Households may also feel the increase when fuel costs are built into delivery charges, repair visits and other service calls.
Diesel is particularly important for contractors, delivery operators, landscapers, maintenance companies and other businesses that depend on work trucks. Higher operating costs can also affect restaurants and retailers that rely on deliveries, as well as weekend travelers planning longer drives from El Cajon.
The U.S. Energy Information Administration provides broader California fuel-price data, but statewide figures do not replace the San Diego metro averages used here. Drivers should compare nearby stations because pump prices can vary substantially from the regional average.
