Harding home streak ends, another big game today

After more than a year of dominance at Rhodes–Reaves Field House, Harding University’s men’s basketball team saw its 13-game home winning streak snapped Thursday night. A late cold spell on offense opened the door for Oklahoma Baptist to steal a 78–73 win, despite Harding leading by double digits in the second half.

The Bisons don’t have long to dwell on it. They’re back on their home floor this afternoon, hosting Southern Nazarene at 3 p.m. Fans heading to the game can expect an energized crowd looking for a quick bounce-back performance.

Rialto Theater offering weekend showings of “David”

Downtown, the historic Rialto Theater is leaning into family-friendly fare this weekend with showings of the animated film “David,” retelling the biblical story from shepherd boy to king. Today’s schedule includes a matinee at 2 p.m. and an evening show at 6:30 p.m.

The theater continues to offer captioning and hearing-assistance devices on request, a helpful option for guests who need a little extra support to enjoy a night at the movies.

Schools: books, auditions and hoops

Searcy School District is in the middle of its One Book/One School program at Sidney Deener Elementary, running through next week. The district also has students on the road this weekend for All-State orchestra auditions in Conway, giving local musicians a chance to earn statewide honors.

On the high-school sports front, Riverview’s boys basketball team is in the stretch run of its regular season. The Raiders, off to a strong start in conference play, have road games next week at Lisa Academy North and Pangburn as they jockey for postseason seeding.
