Top headlines
Capitol Hill: fatal shooting under investigation
Seattle police say a man was shot late Friday night, February 20, near East Pine Street and Belmont Avenue. Officers and medics attempted life-saving aid, but the victim died at the scene. Police say a 42-year-old man was taken into custody, and detectives are still working to piece together what led up to the altercation.
Light rail: 2 Line disrupted during simulated service
Sound Transit posted an ongoing alert Friday evening saying 2 Line service was suspended between Lynnwood City Center Station and International District/Chinatown Station, with riders directed to use 1 Line trains instead. If you commute through downtown, expect some crowding on platforms and trains when disruptions hit, and budget extra time until service fully stabilizes.
Downtown transit: construction detours through early Monday
King County Metro warned riders that construction closing the intersection of 3rd Avenue and Virginia Street would detour a long list of routes from Friday night through 5 a.m. Monday, February 23. If your stop is in the 3rd Avenue corridor, double-check where your bus is boarding and consider an earlier trip if you have a tight connection.
Police & safety notes
In a weekend incident roundup, police reported shots fired with damage to vehicles and businesses in the 500 block of North 36th Street, plus a separate report of a juvenile arriving at UW Medical Center with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. Police also described a hit-and-run in the Central District/South Area that ended with a townhouse fire after a gas leak, and a DUI arrest after a driver struck a marked patrol vehicle that was blocking traffic for another collision investigation.
