Sentencing in Southeast Shooting, Mayor’s Events, and a Sunny Turn Ahead
Southeast Shooting Case Ends in Prison Sentence
A 40-year-old D.C. man has been sentenced to eight years in prison for a March 2025 shooting near a fire station in Southeast Washington. The defendant previously pleaded guilty to aggravated assault and multiple firearm charges in Superior Court.
Prosecutors said the victim walked into a nearby fire station with a gunshot wound and was later hospitalized. Surveillance footage helped investigators identify and arrest the suspect last spring. The sentence also includes three years of supervised release following prison time.
Mayor’s Weekend and Monday Agenda
Mayor Muriel Bowser kicked off the annual FITDC HerStory 5K at Freedom Plaza on Saturday morning, joining runners and community members for the city’s women-focused fitness event. The run began at 10 a.m. after an early reception and registration.
On Monday, March 9, the mayor’s public calendar includes official meetings at the Wilson Building as the District returns to a full workweek schedule. City leaders are expected to continue budget and public safety discussions as the Council moves through its March legislative calendar.
Weather: Mild and Brighter to Start the Week
After a cloudy and occasionally damp weekend, the forecast is trending brighter. Local meteorologists say Monday begins a stretch of milder weather, with sunshine and temperatures climbing above seasonal averages.
Highs are expected to reach into the 60s and potentially higher later in the week, offering a preview of spring across the region. Commuters can expect calmer conditions compared to recent unsettled weather.
