Sheboygan Gas and Diesel Prices Ease but Stay Above Last Week
AAA’s July 28 Sheboygan metro averages show gas and diesel easing from the prior day while remaining higher than last week, last month and last year.
Sheboygan-area drivers saw modest relief in the latest AAA price check, but regular gasoline and diesel remained well above their levels from a week, month and year earlier.
AAA’s July 28, 2026, Sheboygan metro average for regular gasoline was $3.883 per gallon, down 1.6 cents from the previous day’s $3.899 average. Diesel averaged $5.001 per gallon, down 6.9 cents from the previous day’s $5.070.
One-day declines have not reversed the broader increase
Regular gasoline was still 17.9 cents higher than it was a week earlier, when the Sheboygan metro average was $3.704. It was also 31.2 cents above the month-ago average of $3.571 and $1.014 higher than the year-ago average of $2.869.
Diesel also remained elevated despite its sharper daily decline. The July 28 average was 12.1 cents above the previous week’s $4.880, 23.3 cents above the month-ago average of $4.768 and $1.502 higher than the year-ago average of $3.499.
These are metro averages, not prices at every station in Sheboygan. Individual pumps can vary by location, brand, payment method and timing, so drivers may see prices that are noticeably higher or lower than AAA’s figures.
Why prices remain high
In its July 23 national report, AAA said rising crude-oil prices were behind the broader increase. The organization also cited volatility around the Strait of Hormuz and regional instability, which had pushed crude prices into the $90-per-barrel range at the time of that report.
For context, AAA listed the national regular-gas average at $4.099 and the Wisconsin regular-gas average at $3.878 on July 28. Wisconsin’s diesel average was $5.058, slightly above the Sheboygan metro diesel figure.
What higher fuel costs can affect locally
For households, the difference can show up in commuting budgets, errands and weekend travel. Diesel prices also matter to contractors, delivery operators, farms, restaurants and service businesses that rely on trucks or equipment. Businesses may face higher transportation and operating costs even when those costs are not immediately visible to customers.
The one-day decline does not establish a sustained downward trend. The more useful signal for local budgets is whether regular gas and diesel continue moving lower over the next several checks or remain above the prior week’s levels.
