Shelby County seeks bids for major water-control station in Columbiana

Shelby County opened procurement for construction of the Southern Transmission Line Control Valve Station, a potable-water infrastructure project tied to the county water system and headquartered in Columbiana.

The county solicited sealed proposals for work that includes reinforced-concrete vaults, large-diameter piping and valves, electrical infrastructure, sitework and related appurtenances. The project represents a significant step toward improving or expanding water-system control and reliability, although the notice does not establish which neighborhoods or customers will be affected.

What the project includes

The construction scope calls for 12- to 24-inch vault piping and valves, along with 16- to 36-inch yard piping and valves. Contractors would also handle an electrical system, site improvements and miscellaneous components needed for the station.

The official notice identifies the facility as a potable-water control-valve station. It does not, by itself, establish that the station is inside the Columbiana municipal water system. The approved project information instead identifies it as part of Shelby County’s water-system infrastructure.
