South Gate-area gas holds at $5.714; diesel eases to $7.110
Regular gasoline prices held steady while diesel edged lower in the latest AAA check for the Los Angeles-Long Beach market, the regional benchmark most applicable to South Gate drivers.
As of August 3, AAA listed regular gasoline at $5.714 per gallon and diesel at $7.110 per gallon. Regular gas was unchanged from the previous day. Diesel fell 1.4 cents from the previous day, from $7.124 to $7.110.
Those figures are metro averages, not an exact citywide average for South Gate. Prices at individual South Gate stations can vary by brand, location, fuel grade and the time a listing is updated.
Regular gas is higher than a week, month and year ago
The Los Angeles-Long Beach regular-gas benchmark was 1.3 cents higher than a week earlier, 31 cents higher than a month earlier and $1.249 higher than the same point last year. The one-day pause therefore does not change the broader pattern of higher costs for drivers filling up over longer periods.
AAA’s California regular-gas average was $5.659 on August 3, about 5.5 cents below the Los Angeles-Long Beach benchmark. The comparison provides statewide context, but it does not establish what every South Gate station is charging.
Diesel eased for one day but remains sharply higher year over year
Diesel moved differently in the short term. The regional average declined 1.4 cents from the prior day, but it was still 5.9 cents higher than a week earlier, 45.3 cents higher than a month earlier and $1.954 higher than a year earlier.
That longer-term increase may matter more than the small daily decline for contractors, delivery operators, landscapers, maintenance companies and other businesses that rely on diesel-powered vehicles or equipment.
South Gate station listings are older local examples
Way.com’s South Gate listings provide exact-city examples, but the latest displayed updates were dated July 19, 2026. Those listings showed regular-gas examples ranging from $5.19 at an ARCO on Firestone Boulevard to $6.57 at a Shell on South Atlantic Avenue. They should not be presented as current August 4 prices or as a citywide South Gate average.
For commuters and households, the regional benchmark points to continued pressure on weekly driving budgets. Restaurants, service businesses and delivery-dependent operators may also face higher operating costs, although fuel prices alone do not establish whether a business will change its prices or fees. Weekend travelers may want to compare nearby stations before filling up because prices can differ substantially from one location to another.
