Springfield, TN Daily Briefing — February 8, 2026
Springfield, TN — February 8, 2026 — Film shoot at local bank, barn fire near Cross Plains, and Sunday I-65 roadblocks lead today’s local updates.
Good morning, Springfield
Springfield starts Sunday with a bit of Hollywood flair, a serious barn fire just up the road, and early traffic disruptions on the interstate.
Film shoot brings flashing lights to Farmers Bank
Residents who saw a large emergency response at Farmers Bank on Tom Austin Highway Saturday evening were actually watching a movie scene in progress, not a real disaster.
Crews began filming around 6 p.m. and expected to work into the early hours of Sunday, using multiple staged emergency vehicles and actors to create a realistic response scene. The project is part of the independent film “Boot Lake,” which has also been shooting around downtown Springfield.
Barn fire in Cross Plains injures dog, destroys equipment
Just northeast of Springfield, a Saturday morning barn fire on Bethlehem Road in Cross Plains left one dog burned and a barn, truck, and lawn equipment destroyed.
Fire crews say two dogs were inside when the barn ignited. One was found with burns to its face and back and taken to a local animal clinic, where it is expected to recover. The second dog is believed to have escaped. The fire also damaged siding on a nearby home, but no people were hurt.
Rolling roadblocks on I-65 early Sunday
Drivers leaving or returning to Springfield this morning may encounter brief rolling roadblocks on I-65 in Robertson County between 6 and 7 a.m.
State transportation crews are allowing overhead work that requires slowing traffic around mile marker 120. Delays should be short, but motorists heading toward Nashville or Kentucky may want to allow a little extra time.
Weather and recovery updates
State emergency officials remain in a heightened posture following Winter Storm Fern, which has caused widespread damage and dozens of weather-related deaths across Tennessee.
While Springfield avoided the worst impacts, residents are encouraged to document any storm-related property damage through the state’s self-reporting survey as recovery programs continue to ramp up.
