St. Petersburg Selects Blake for Tropicana Field Redevelopment

St. Petersburg Mayor Ken Welch selected Blake Investment Partners on July 2, 2026, as the preferred developer for the Tropicana Field site and the adjacent Historic Gas Plant District.

The decision restarts the city’s redevelopment process for a major tract of city-controlled property. Blake Investment Partners now has the lead position for a proposed mixed-use project, but the selection is not final. St. Petersburg City Council must still approve the next step.

City Council’s consideration will determine whether the city authorizes that next stage. Later decisions would also be needed to clarify the project’s cost, financing, ownership structure, housing unit count and final development mix.

The confirmed change is the mayor’s selection of Blake Investment Partners. The proposal remains a plan rather than a completed redevelopment, and it should not be described as an approved stadium replacement or a project under construction.
