Storm Recovery, Hiring Push and Major Attractions Debut Across San Diego

San Diego, CA – March 7, 2026 – Police activity near a local market, a regional hiring push, and major new attractions mark a busy week across the city.

San Diego is heading into the weekend with a mix of public safety concerns, economic updates and big-ticket attractions drawing crowds across the county.

Heavy Police Activity Near Local Market

San Diego police have responded to more than 1,000 calls within 500 feet of a neighborhood market over the past two years, according to a recent local news report. The activity has raised ongoing concerns among nearby residents and business owners about safety and quality of life.

City leaders say enforcement and outreach efforts are continuing, though neighbors are calling for longer-term solutions that address underlying issues contributing to repeated calls for service.

Tourism Industry Hosts Major Hiring Event

There was better news on the jobs front this week. More than 50 employers — including major local attractions and sports organizations — participated in a large career fair at San Diego City College focused on tourism and hospitality roles.

The event comes as the region’s unemployment rate ticked up to 4.4% in February. Workforce leaders say tourism remains a key economic engine for San Diego and are working to connect job seekers with immediate openings ahead of the busy spring and summer seasons.

Elephant Valley and LEGO Galaxy Open

Meanwhile, two highly anticipated attractions officially opened their gates this week.

The San Diego Zoo Safari Park debuted Denny Sanford Elephant Valley on March 5, marking the largest expansion in the park’s history. The immersive habitat allows visitors to observe elephants across a sprawling, thoughtfully designed landscape.

LEGOLAND California also unveiled LEGO Galaxy on March 6, introducing a new space-themed land and the park’s first new roller coaster in more than two decades.

With major openings, job opportunities and continued public safety discussions, San Diego enters the second week of March balancing growth and community concerns.
