Street repairs approved, offices reopen, ArtWalk lights up downtown
Greenville, NC — February 6, 2026 — Street repairs move forward, county offices return to normal hours, and downtown hosts First Friday ArtWalk tonight.
Street work set for 2026
Greenville City Council has approved contracts for the 2026 Street Rehabilitation and Preservation Project, clearing the way for improvements across nearly 40 lane miles. The work is expected to focus on resurfacing, preservation treatments, and targeted repairs on streets identified as high priority.
City officials say the plan is designed to extend the life of existing roads while improving safety and ride quality. Residents may see surveying and early prep work begin in the coming months, with construction scheduled in phases to reduce traffic disruptions.
County offices reopen after delayed start
Pitt County government offices returned to normal operations Thursday afternoon after opening later in the day due to recent conditions. Services resumed at noon, including administrative offices and public-facing departments.
Officials encouraged residents who missed appointments earlier in the week to reschedule as needed. Regular hours are expected to continue unless further notices are issued.
First Friday ArtWalk returns tonight
Downtown Greenville will be busy this evening as the First Friday ArtWalk takes place from 5 to 8 p.m. Galleries, studios, shops, and performance spaces are opening their doors to showcase local artists and musicians.
The monthly event is self-guided, allowing visitors to explore at their own pace while supporting small businesses and the local arts scene. Parking is available throughout downtown, and many venues will stay open later than usual.
Annexation hearing scheduled
A public hearing is set for February 12 regarding a proposed annexation along West Fifth Street. The request involves a large parcel of land north of B’s Barbeque Road and would bring the area into city limits if approved.
Residents with questions or concerns will have an opportunity to speak during the hearing at City Hall. Maps and related documents are available for public review during regular business hours.
