Winchester City Council President Corey Sullivan called on Carroll โBeauโ Correll to leave two leadership posts: chair of the Winchester Republican Committee and chair of the city Planning Commission. The Virginia Center for Investigative Journalism at WHRO reported the call on Oct. 20, 2026, and said Correll rejected it in an emailed statement.
The demand concerns two separate chairmanships, but the responses from other City Council members were not all the same. WHRO reported that council members Richard Bell and Chip Newcome called for Correll to resign from the Planning Commission. Council member John Fox called for transparency but did not call for Correllโs resignation.
The City of Winchesterโs events page lists a regular and work-session City Council meeting for Oct. 13, 2026, a week before WHROโs report. The listing confirms that a meeting was scheduled; it does not establish that it took place, who attended or what was said. It therefore cannot, by itself, place Sullivanโs call at that meeting.
Did Correll step down? The reported call and rejection do not establish that he left either chairmanship. The documented development is a demand for resignations and Correllโs reported refusal, not a confirmed change in either role.
