Temple-Area Gas Eases as Diesel Tops $5, AAA Check Shows

Regular gasoline and diesel are moving in opposite directions around Temple. AAA’s July 31, 2026, check put the Killeen-Temple-Fort Hood metro average at $3.619 per gallon for regular gas and $5.093 for diesel.

That split matters for Temple drivers and businesses because gasoline has eased over the short term, while diesel has climbed across every comparison period listed by AAA.

Regular gas is down from last week but up sharply over longer periods

The metro regular-gas average fell 1.7 cents from July 30 and was down 14 cents from July 24. Even so, the price remained 40.3 cents higher than it was on June 30 and 89.2 cents above the July 31, 2025, average.

For commuters and households, the latest direction is favorable compared with last week, but the longer-term price remains substantially higher. Drivers may see some relief compared with earlier in July, though that relief has not erased the year-over-year increase.

Diesel has crossed $5 and is rising across all listed comparisons

Diesel reached a metro average of $5.093 per gallon, up 2.6 cents from the previous day and 19.6 cents from the prior week. It was also 92.7 cents higher than a month earlier and $1.791 above the same date last year.

The diesel increase is especially relevant for delivery operators, contractors, farm businesses, service companies and commercial fleets. Restaurants and other businesses that depend on regular deliveries may also face added transportation-cost pressure, although the available price data does not measure how individual businesses are responding.

One Temple station shows why pump prices vary

A 7-Eleven listing for 4110 S. 31st Street in Temple showed regular gas at $3.579 per gallon and diesel at $5.199. The listing says its gas prices were updated within 24 hours.

That single station was 4 cents below the metro regular-gas average but 10.6 cents above the metro diesel average. It should be treated as a location-specific snapshot, not a citywide survey. Prices can differ by station, neighborhood, brand and timing.

AAA Texas has linked recent fuel-market movement to oil-price volatility and warned that retail prices can continue changing as crude markets move. For Temple-area drivers, the immediate takeaway is mixed: regular gas is easing from its recent peak, while diesel remains above the $5 threshold and is much higher than it was a year ago.
