Texas City-Area Gas Prices Ease; Diesel Nears $4.91
Regular gas fell 1.1 cents to $3.640 in the latest Galveston-Texas City metro check, while diesel rose 0.7 cents to $4.909 per gallon.
Regular gasoline prices eased in the Galveston-Texas City metro on Saturday, August 1, while diesel moved higher. The latest AAA price check lists regular gas at $3.640 per gallon and diesel at $4.909 per gallon.
Regular gas edges lower
The metro average for regular gasoline fell 1.1 cents from the previous daily average of $3.651. It was also 0.7 cents lower than the week-ago average of $3.647.
The longer-term comparison is less favorable for drivers. Regular gas is 26.7 cents higher than it was one month ago, when the metro average was $3.373. Compared with the same point last year, the current average is 86.8 cents higher.
Diesel moves in the opposite direction
Diesel is following a different short-term path. The latest average of $4.909 is 0.7 cents higher than the previous dayโs $4.902 and 9.2 cents above the week-ago average of $4.817.
Diesel is up 43.5 cents from one month ago and $1.655 from the year-ago average of $3.254. That difference matters most for businesses and workers that depend on heavier vehicles, including contractors, delivery operators, marine and industrial services, landscaping companies and other fuel-intensive operations.
What it means for Texas City drivers
For commuters and households, the small daily decline in regular gas may provide limited relief at the pump, but prices remain well above their one-month and year-ago levels. Drivers making frequent trips between Texas City, Galveston, La Marque and the Houston area may notice the difference over several fill-ups.
Higher diesel prices can work through local costs more indirectly. Delivery fleets, service businesses and contractors may face greater fuel expenses, which can affect trip charges, delivery costs and the price of work that requires trucks or equipment. Restaurants and retailers may also feel pressure if transportation costs rise.
Metro averages are not station prices
AAAโs figures are averages for the Galveston-Texas City metro, not a single citywide price and not a guarantee that every Texas City station is charging $3.640 for regular gas or $4.909 for diesel. Prices can vary by station, payment method, location and competition.
The U.S. Energy Information Administration publishes broader Texas fuel data, while AAAโs metro table is updated daily. Comparing several nearby stations before filling up remains the best way to find a lower local price.
