Police investigate fatal motorcycle crash on Cherry Street
Toledo police are continuing to investigate a deadly motorcycle crash that happened Sunday evening along Cherry Street near the roundabout. Officers say a man riding northbound lost control around 4:30 p.m., wrecking his bike and suffering fatal injuries.
Early witness accounts indicate the rider may have tried to maneuver around a car just before the crash. Emergency crews responded quickly, but the motorcyclist was later pronounced dead. Police noted the rider was not wearing a helmet at the time.
The incident follows another recent motorcycle injury crash reported along Cherry Street, underscoring ongoing concerns about motorcycle safety and driver awareness on busy city corridors. Investigators are working to piece together the full sequence of events and determine any contributing factors.
Toledo Zoo highlights behind-the-scenes tours and winter programs
The Toledo Zoo & Aquarium is using the quieter winter weeks to spotlight special tours and nature programs through the end of February. Behind-the-scenes experiences are scheduled on multiple days, giving guests a closer look at animal care, habitats, and daily operations.
On upcoming weekends, the zoo is planning themed offerings such as photography sessions, bird walks, and seasonal wildlife programs that appeal to both families and serious nature enthusiasts. Many of the events carry an additional fee and require advance registration, but standard admission still includes access to most indoor exhibits and winter-hardy animals.
Zoo staff say the late-winter period is a good time to visit, with smaller crowds and more opportunities to talk directly with animal care teams before the spring rush begins.
Walleye stay atop division as road swing nears
The Toledo Walleye remain in first place in the ECHL’s Central Division after a tightly contested three-game stretch over the weekend. All three matchups were decided by a single goal, including a road win and two narrow losses at home.
New forward Johnny Waldron has been a bright spot, piling up goals and quickly becoming one of the Walleye’s top producers since joining the lineup earlier this month. Veteran scorer Brandon Hawkins also continues his chase of the franchise’s all-time points record, adding to his season totals in recent games.
The Walleye now turn their attention to a challenging road series later this week, aiming to build on their strong power play and maintain their edge in the division race as the regular season heads into its final third.
