Tracy-Area Gas Prices Ease While Diesel Rises in AAA Check
Regular gasoline and diesel moved in different directions in the latest AAA price check used for the Tracy area. Regular gas eased from the previous day and week, while diesel rose from the previous day but remained below its level from a week earlier.
AAA listed the Stockton-Lodi metro average at $5.476 per gallon for regular gasoline and $6.667 for diesel on August 4, 2026. Those figures describe the broader metro market, not a city-only average for Tracy, so individual pumps may be higher or lower.
Regular gas is slightly lower short term
The regular-gas average was down 1.3 cents from the previous day and 0.9 cents from a week earlier. The short-term easing is modest, however, compared with the longer-term increase: regular gas was 26.4 cents higher than one month ago and $1.063 higher than one year ago.
For Tracy commuters and households, that means a small day-to-day improvement has not erased the larger increase in the cost of filling a vehicle. Drivers traveling through the Stockton-Lodi market may still see meaningful differences from one station to the next, making local price comparisons worthwhile.
Diesel rises from the prior day but stays below last week
Diesel averaged $6.667 per gallon, up 1.2 cents from the previous day. It was still 2.6 cents below the previous weekโs average, showing a split short-term pattern in which diesel rose daily even as its weekly comparison remained lower.
The longer-term diesel increase is more pronounced. The latest average was 36.2 cents higher than one month ago and $1.468 higher than one year ago. That larger annual increase matters beyond trucking. Diesel costs can affect delivery operators, contractors, agricultural businesses, service companies, restaurants that depend on deliveries, and other operations using diesel-powered vehicles or equipment.
What Tracy drivers should watch
The U.S. Energy Information Administrationโs California data provides broader statewide context, while AAAโs Stockton-Lodi figure is the more relevant regional benchmark for Tracy-area readers. Neither source should be read as the exact price at every Tracy station. Exact-city station listings can help drivers compare individual locations, but listed observations may not update at the same time as the AAA metro average.
For residents, the practical takeaway is mixed: regular gas is a little cheaper than at the prior daily and weekly comparison points, while diesel has moved higher from the previous day. Both remain substantially more expensive than a month or a year ago, which may continue to pressure household transportation budgets and diesel-intensive local businesses.
