Two women injured in UTV rollover southeast of Tarkio
Two women were reported moderately injured after a 2008 Polaris Ranger utility terrain vehicle overturned July 9 at R Avenue and 210th Street, about two miles southeast of Tarkio in Atchison County, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
Crash occurred on gravel roadway
The patrol listed the crash at about 9:20 p.m. July 9, 2026. Its report said the driver lost control on the gravel roadway, causing the UTV to leave the west side of R Avenue, overturn and come to rest on its passenger side facing southwest.
The injured occupants were listed as a 17-year-old girl and a 22-year-old woman, both from New Market, Iowa. The patrol classified both injuries as moderate.
Two taken to Fairfax Community Hospital
KTTN reported July 10 that the 17-year-old was taken by private vehicle to Fairfax Community Hospital. The 22-year-old was transported to the same hospital by Atchison-Holt Ambulance.
The 18-year-old driver was listed as being from Lewis, Iowa, and as uninjured.
Patrol listed no safety-equipment use
The Missouri State Highway Patrol record listed no safety-device use for the occupants. KTTN reported the same finding and said the driver also was not using safety equipment.
KTTN reported that the Polaris Ranger sustained minor damage and was driven from the scene.
Local agencies assisted
KTTN reported that the Atchison County Sheriffโs Department, Tarkio Police Department and Atchison-Holt Ambulance assisted at the scene.
The crash occurred outside Tarkioโs city center, approximately two miles southeast of the community, but the location was identified in the official patrol record as a Tarkio-area crash in Atchison County.
