Upriver Fire keeps Camp Sekani closed, limits West Valley buses
Spokane WA – Camp Sekani stayed closed June 17 as the Upriver Fire triggered evacuations, road closures and limited bus routes in West Valley.
On the latest June 17 updates, Camp Sekani Park remained closed while the Upriver Fire continued to affect daily routines in northeast Spokane.
The City of Spokane Parks & Recreation said all of Camp Sekani is closed to the public until further notice to support fire response and keep people safe. The city also said recreation access remained open on public land to the west, from Esmeralda Golf Course and Spokane County’s Shields Park.
Spokane police said they responded to a mutual-aid request from the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office, went door to door to help with evacuations, and assisted with road closures so firefighters could work the area.
West Valley School District said bus routes were limited on June 17 because of ongoing road closures tied to the Camp Sekani fire, adding another practical disruption for families near the fire area.
Spokane Public Radio reported the fire was still active on June 17 and that Level 2 and Level 3 evacuations remained between Camp Sekani and East Bigelow Gulch Road. For now, residents should check official city, county and district updates before traveling toward the area.
