West Complex park expansion adds 250 spaces and a new Whitehead Road entrance

The Kershaw County West Complex expansion is complete and open, giving visitors 250 new paved parking spaces and an additional entrance and exit on Whitehead Road.

County officials held a ribbon-cutting at the Lugoff recreation complex on July 10, 2026. WIS reported that the expansion was intended to accommodate increased use of the park and that county officials said the site was open for families.

The county identifies the site as the Kershaw County West Complex, also referred to as West Park. Its address is 519 Whitehead Road in Lugoff, Kershaw County. The facility is not inside the Town of Kershaw, although it is a county recreation resource relevant to residents and users across the county.

The county recreation facility record lists three lighted multipurpose fields, eight lighted baseball and softball fields, two covered shelters and an ADA-compliant playground. Those facilities make the complex a regular destination for families, players, coaches, staff and spectators.

What changed

The completed work adds 250 paved parking spaces and another access point on Whitehead Road. For people arriving for practices, games or other activities, the immediate change is additional on-site parking and another route into and out of the complex.

The available sources do not quantify any reduction in congestion or traffic delays. They also do not establish a measured improvement in emergency-response times or describe the new access point as reserved for emergency vehicles.
