West Hempstead Fire District storage-building hearing held; decision not yet public
The Town of Hempstead Board of Appeals held its Aug. 5, 2026, public hearing on the West Hempstead Fire District’s proposal to construct a storage building at its firehouse property, but the board’s final action has not been publicly identified.
Case 417/26 concerns a special exception and side-yard and rear-yard variances for the site at 295 Hempstead Turnpike, at the southwest corner of Hempstead Turnpike and Maplewood Street and running through to Sycamore Street. The hearing notice placed the matter in a 9:30 a.m. public-hearing session. Nassau County identifies the West Hempstead Fire District as District 760.
The notice said a SEQRA determination had not been made at the time it was issued and classified the matter as a Nassau County Planning Commission local determination. The board has not identified whether the application was approved, denied or adjourned, and no approval conditions or construction timetable were identified.
The public record therefore establishes that the zoning hearing took place, but not whether the proposed storage building can proceed. A board decision or further action on Case 417/26 is the next material step for residents and nearby property owners; no date for that action is established here.
