Wilbraham seeks proposals to reuse four municipal properties, including former police building

Wilbraham has opened a formal request for information seeking ideas for the future use of four municipal properties, including the former police building and Town Hall.

The town is inviting qualified organizations, institutions, developers, nonprofit entities, educational providers, recreation operators and public-private partners to submit conceptual proposals. Possible arrangements include adaptive reuse, redevelopment, leasing, partnerships or purchase.

The process could affect the future use, ownership or operation of the properties, but it does not announce an approved redevelopment project or an immediate change for residents, workers or other building users.

The four properties

The properties named in the notice are Memorial School at 310 Main St.; the Little Red School House at 28 Springfield St.; the former Wilbraham Police Building at 16 Main St.; and Wilbraham Town Hall at 240 Springfield St.

Those locations place the request across several types of public facilities, including former and current municipal buildings. The notice allows the town to consider different reuse or transaction concepts rather than identifying one predetermined outcome.

Deadlines and site visit

Wilbraham posted the notice July 23, 2026. Responses are due Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2026, at 2 p.m.

The town also scheduled a voluntary site visit for July 30, 2026, at 8:30 a.m. at 16 Main St., the former police building. The site visit gives potential respondents an opportunity to view at least one of the properties before submitting concepts.

No final decision announced

The request for information is an early step in the town’s Municipal Facilities Reuse & Consolidation Initiative. It is intended to gather possible approaches, not to announce a selected developer, buyer, tenant or operating partner.

The official notice does not say which properties, if any, will ultimately be sold, leased or repurposed. It also does not identify a preferred proposal or financing plan.

For Wilbraham residents and taxpayers, the immediate development is the opening of a proposal process. Any future changes to ownership, leasing, operations or public use would depend on the concepts received and later town action. At this stage, the town has not announced that Town Hall or the former police building will close or move.
