Willmar Daily Brief: Amphitheater Plans, Safety Calls, and Student Honors
Willmar, MN — February 7, 2026 — City council green-lights amphitheater work, police logs note crashes and fraud, and students earn honor roll.
City Hall: Amphitheater and Roof Projects Advance
Willmar’s amphitheater at Robbins Island is a step closer to reality after the City Council approved engineering services for the project earlier this week. A contracted engineering firm will handle civil design work this spring and summer, using state grant funding and local support to prepare the site for construction.
The amphitheater is planned with a two-sided stage that can serve both large crowds and smaller community gatherings. Design details include dedicated backstage space, storage and a green room, aiming to make the venue a year-round hub for concerts, cultural events and civic celebrations.
Council members also signed off on roof replacement projects for the public library and the public works office. The work carries a significant price tag but is expected to extend the life of the buildings’ roofs for decades, addressing ongoing leaks and maintenance concerns.
Public Safety Snapshot
Recent law enforcement logs for Willmar and nearby communities note several vehicle crashes, including a hit-and-run reported on First Street South and another crash on 30th Street Northeast. No injuries were listed in those incidents.
Officers also responded to a domestic assault report on Becker Avenue Southeast and took a fraud report involving identity theft on Third Avenue Northwest. Earlier records this week included a suspected impaired driving arrest, along with scattered reports of theft, harassment and suspicious activity in residential areas.
Schools: Students Make the Honor Roll
Two Willmar schools released academic honors this week. Willmar Senior High published its second-term honor roll for the 2025–26 school year, recognizing students for high GPAs across all grade levels. Designations distinguish between highest honors, high honors and honors to highlight top classroom performance.
Community Christian School in Willmar also announced its second-quarter honor roll for grades six through twelve. Students earned recognition for maintaining at least a B-average, with an additional marker for those achieving higher GPAs. The lists underscore steady academic work midway through the school year.
Today Around Town
Several winter events are on the calendar in the Willmar Lakes area today, including the annual gun show at the Civic Center, a Frozen 5K run and a Galentine’s-themed gathering. At the high school, the boys swimming and diving team is hosting its conference championship meet, with local athletes closing out the season on home turf.
