Forecast Details
The National Weather Service forecasts that Winter Storm Gianna will bring several inches of snow to the region, beginning Friday afternoon and continuing through Saturday. Greenville County is projected to receive four to eight inches of snow.
Travel Advisory
Heavy snowfall is expected to create hazardous travel conditions across the Upstate. South Carolina Secretary of Transportation Justin Powell advised residents to stay home and avoid travel during a news conference on January 29. The South Carolina Department of Transportation will begin 24-hour operations starting Friday to prepare and respond to the winter storm. Crews are currently pre-treating interstates, bridges, and other primary routes with brine.

Residents are advised to monitor for symptoms of measles, as public exposure sites have been identified in the area. The South Carolina Department of Public Health has reported 789 cases of measles centered around Spartanburg County as of January 27, 2026. Individuals who were exposed, especially those without immunity through vaccination or previous disease, should monitor for symptoms.
