Woodbridge Elementary Set to Open Aug. 24 as Boundaries Shift
Woodbridge Elementary is scheduled to open Aug. 24, with new attendance assignments, bus information and an Aug. 20 open house on families’ calendars.
Woodbridge Elementary is scheduled to open students on Aug. 24, 2026, giving families in parts of Woodbridge a new school to prepare for as Prince William County Public Schools changes some elementary attendance assignments.
The school is located at 1550 Prince William Parkway and will serve students during the 2026-27 school year. A July 9 back-to-school notice from Woodbridge Elementary lists registration guidance, school hours, supplies information and ParentVUE schedule details for families preparing for the opening.
Important dates for families
Transportation information, including bus details, is scheduled to be available Aug. 14. The school’s open house is planned for Aug. 20, four days before the first day for students. A ribbon-cutting ceremony is scheduled for Sept. 9.
Those dates give families several near-term checkpoints, but the current notices describe them as scheduled events. Parents and guardians should check Prince William County Public Schools for any later updates before relying on a transportation assignment, schedule or event time.
Attendance assignments are changing
Approved 2026-27 attendance-area records show that residences previously assigned to Potomac View Elementary will be reassigned to Woodbridge Elementary. The changes also affect portions of the Kilby and Vaughan areas.
The boundary changes do not mean every student or residence associated with those schools or neighborhoods will move to Woodbridge Elementary. Individual assignments depend on the approved attendance-area map and the specific home address. Families should use the Prince William County Public Schools boundary portal to verify their assignment rather than relying on neighborhood names alone.
The attendance-area materials also include a provision for some rising fifth graders in affected areas to remain at their current elementary school for fifth grade. That provision is not a general exemption for every student affected by the boundary changes, so families should confirm whether it applies to their address and child.
Why the new school matters locally
Prince William County Public Schools and local reporting have identified the school as part of an effort to relieve overcrowding along the Route 1 corridor. The opening and attendance-area changes will affect school assignments, bus routes, enrollment patterns and the timing of family decisions about registration and transportation.
For families assigned to Woodbridge Elementary, the most immediate steps are to review the school’s registration and supply information, monitor ParentVUE instructions, check for transportation details on Aug. 14 and plan to attend the Aug. 20 open house if possible. Families affected by the attendance changes should verify their address directly through the official PWCS boundary system, particularly if they have a rising fifth grader who may qualify for the provision to remain at a current school.
