NCAA Wrestling Draws Big Crowds Downtown

Rocket Arena was in the national spotlight this weekend as it hosted the NCAA Division I Men’s Wrestling Championships from March 19–21. Thousands of athletes, coaches and fans filled downtown hotels, restaurants and bars, giving the Gateway District a noticeable boost.

City and tourism leaders have long pointed to marquee events like this as proof Cleveland can handle large-scale championships. With more national tournaments on the horizon, the successful weekend adds momentum to ongoing efforts to attract future sporting events.

City Hall Hearing Set for Wednesday

Cleveland City Hall will host a public hearing Wednesday, March 25, at 9:30 a.m. for the Board of Building Standards and Building Appeals. The agenda includes housing code violation appeals involving residential properties in Wards 2 and 7.

The hearings, which can be attended in person or virtually, are part of the city’s broader push to address property maintenance and neighborhood safety. Decisions could determine timelines for repairs and potential enforcement actions.

I-X Center Prepares for Its Curtain Call

Looking ahead to this weekend, the 60th annual Piston Powered Auto-Rama will run March 27–29 at the I-X Center. Organizers are billing it as the final consumer show inside the massive exhibition hall, which has hosted events since the mid-1980s.

The possible closure of the I-X Center marks a turning point for Cleveland’s convention and trade show landscape. Industry leaders have raised concerns about where large-scale expos will land next, as downtown and suburban venues may not match the I-X Center’s size and flexibility.

For many Northeast Ohio families, the Auto-Rama will be both a celebration of custom cars and a nostalgic farewell to a venue that has shaped generations of local memories.
