Amazon has cut jobs in its artificial-general-intelligence (AGI) group, Reuters reported July 22, 2026. The reductions followed a larger companywide job-cut round in January, making the AGI action the latest in a series of smaller reductions inside the company.
The report said employees reporting to Adeeb Shanaa, Amazonโs vice president for AGI data services, and Vishal Sharma, its vice president for AGI information, were affected. Amazon did not disclose the number of employees involved, and the report also did not state how large the January companywide round was.
The staffing reductions come as Amazon continues to describe its AI work as a major priority. An Amazon spokesperson said the company had been building large AI models for several years and considered them among its most important projects.
The available report does not establish whether the cuts represent a shift away from AGI or a reallocation of staff within Amazonโs broader AI operations. It also does not identify a formal restructuring plan, additional workforce action or implementation timeline. Amazonโs next organizational step and the eventual scope of the reductions therefore remain unavailable.
