FCC Opens 2026 Broadband Data Filing Window
The Federal Communications Commission has opened its 2026 Broadband Data Collection filing window, setting Sept. 1 as the deadline for providers to submit broadband availability and subscription data.
The filing cycle covers data measured as of June 30, 2026. Providers may begin submitting the information through the FCC’s national Broadband Data Collection system as of July 1. The agency released the notice establishing the filing window, DA 26-630, on June 26.
The deadline applies to facilities-based broadband providers and to fixed and mobile voice providers that file data through the BDC system. The FCC says late filing may result in enforcement action or penalties.
What providers must file
The filing requires broadband availability information along with required subscription data for the June 30 reference date. The availability data is part of the FCC’s effort to maintain a detailed national picture of where broadband service is reported to be available.
The collection also includes subscription information submitted through the same system. Together, the data supports the federal government’s understanding of internet access and gives the FCC information about the service areas and providers represented in the reporting system.
The filing window is open before the Sept. 1 deadline, but the FCC’s notice warns that failing to submit the required information on time can carry enforcement consequences. The agency has not quantified the potential penalties in the notice.
For providers covered by the reporting requirements, the immediate task is to prepare availability and subscription data using June 30 as the measurement date and submit it through the BDC system by Sept. 1.
Separate proceeding considers program changes
A separate FCC notice sets Aug. 24 as the deadline for reply comments on proposed changes to the Broadband Data Collection and Form 477 programs. The notice was issued by the FCC’s Broadband Data Task Force.
The proposal seeks to eliminate outdated requirements and make broadband data collection more efficient while preserving accurate, granular information, according to the agency. The reply-comment deadline gives participants in the proceeding an additional date for responding to the proposed changes.
The two proceedings create separate deadlines during the same filing cycle. Reply comments on the proposed program changes are due Aug. 24, eight days before the Sept. 1 deadline for the 2026 BDC filing.
The proposal has not produced a final outcome for the rulemaking. The FCC’s opening of the 2026 filing window means the existing submission process applies to this cycle, including the requirement to provide the specified availability and subscription data for June 30.
The dates are therefore distinct: Aug. 24 is the deadline for reply comments on proposed changes to the data programs, while Sept. 1 is the deadline for the required 2026 provider filings. The FCC’s notices do not indicate that the proposed changes have already eliminated any current reporting requirement.
